Dr. Ernest D. Cantley

Dr. Ernest Cantley has 40-years' experience in executive positions in hospitals and human services. Currently, he is President of Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation, a supporting organization to Stewart-Marchman Act Behavioral Healthcare and President of Cantley and Associates, LLC, a private consulting organization that has some of the leading experts in various fields as active consultants. Key foundation activity over the recent years consists of a major capital campaign and construction of the Vince Carter Sanctuary, a 100-bed state-of-art substance abuse treatment program.

 

As President of Stewart-Marchman Center, Dr. Cantley spent 25-years developing this organization into one of the nation's leading substance abuse treatment, education and prevention centers. He spent several years in management at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia, and served as chief executive position of this 221 bed hospital responsible for all psychiatric, social services, addiction treatment and vocational rehabilitation.

 

Dr. Cantley began his public work career as research assistant to a team investigating coal workers lung disease with the U.S. Public Health Service and Appalachian Regional Hospital. These efforts resulted in state and federal legislation that enabled thousands of coal workers and their families to be compensated for their industry related lung disease (black lung).

 

He has a long history of community involvement, as he is currently a member of the Checkered Flag Committee of Daytona International Speedway; Volunteer Captain for the Ladies Professional Golf Association; and, member of the University of South Florida's School of Public Health Advisory Committee. Key previous appointments and volunteer positions include: Florida Public Health Corporation; Associate Trustee for Bethune-Cookman University; Commissioner of Florida Commission on Marriage and Family Support Initiative; founder and president of Florida Juvenile Justice Association; and founder and president of Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association; and, a board member for a host of other local and regional organizations.

 

Dr. Cantley received his Doctorate in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University and Masters in Social Service from West Virginia University.
